November 2018 by Jimmy Wright

On arrival back to Kaikoura I was greeted with a new water housing, a fresh dusting of snow on the hills and some fun waves. Happy days.. It’s awesome to see how much the local groms have progressed in their surfing over the last winter.

If you’ve seen me out shooting and would like to get a look at your shots please give me a text on 0272670838 or an email at jimmyjaywright@hotmail.com

Whale Watch Kaikoura, late January by Jimmy Wright

The past few weeks have been pretty exciting onboard with Whale Watch Kaikoura. We've had Orca passing through, Sperm Whales breaching, a Humpback hanging around, and yesterday to top things off a pod of 5 or 6 Blue Whales and a few Fin whales spending the day feeding about 10 miles from the Kaikoura Peninsula.

Hopefully February will bring more of the same. If your keen to come out on a tour check out www.whalewatch.co.nz

January 8th by Jimmy Wright

We've had an awesome start to 2018 with some pumping waves. Heres some shots from a day a few were calling the best solid day in a few years.

Indonesia by Jimmy Wright

I spent the coldest months of New Zealand's winter darting around the shores of Indonesia, traveling between Sumbawa and Sumatra. Good waves were had and heaps of friendships were made. Below are a few of the moments when everything lined up and the reef cuts, crook guts and hours spent on the road paid off.

November, Whales and Waves by Jimmy Wright

The majority of my time lately has been spent on the sea in search of whales, dolphins and other marine life while working as a guide with Whale Watch Kaikoura. If your keen to see some of the amazing marine life Kaikoura has to offer then visit www.whalewatch.co.nz and book yourself in for a tour!

The seas have been relatively calm lately which has been great for Whale Watching, less so for surfing, though we have had a few small swells which bought to life a few spots around the place.

I've put together a few of my favourite shots from over the past month below:

Kaikoura Cold Water Classic - Day 3 by Jimmy Wright

Day 3 of the competition saw the swell increase a bit and a fresh lick of snow on the mountains. The cold cross/offshore wind bought the meatworks lefts to life and all of the finalists were ripping. Congratulations to the division winners.

Kaikoura Cold Water Classic - Day 2 by Jimmy Wright

Day 2 of the Kaikoura Classic saw the waves pick up a bit with 2 - 3ft A frames all day long. Another good day of competition was had as the organizers made the most of the fun conditions.

I will be shooting throughout the whole event and photos will be available for purchase. Contact me if you want to get a look at the photos from your heat.

Kaikoura Cold Water Classic - Day 1 by Jimmy Wright

The first day of the Kaikoura Cold Water Classic bought fun waves in the 1-2ft range, it was awesome to see a really high level of surfing from competitors all around the country. Here's hoping for an increase in swell and another great day of competition tomorrow.

I will be shooting throughout the whole event and photos will be available for purchase.

Board Silly by Jimmy Wright

Another primo morning on the water with Board Silly surf school, while the weather was miserable, the waves were fun and the Norwegian crew were out there going for it! For most of them it was their first time surfing and they did an awesome job.

Autumn by Jimmy Wright

The first Sunday of Autumn bought fun waves and blue skies with it. I've got a whole bunch of photos from over the weekend so if you were out there and you want to get your hands on your shots get in touch on Facebook (Jimmy Jay Wright) or via email at jimmyjaywright@hotmail.com.
